Killarney is quite possibly one of Irelands most beautiful race courses. Set against a breath taking back drop of the Kerry mountains and lakes its never a meeting you mind making the long journey from Golden to. As Tommy is a proud Kerry man he loves to have a winner there and last night he was thrilled to have two of them!
Van Rooney got the ball rolling in the mile maiden on his first start back this season. He had been placed on three out of four starts last year and we thought he might need the run so we were really delighted that he won. The good ground helped and he will no doubt improve for the run.
The Dunloe Handicap was next and it was a thriller! Kedleston, Croi An Or and our neighbour David Marnanes Suehail all flashed past the post together. It took a while for the judge to call the winner and as we stood with David in the parade ring we thought it could have gone either way. The judged called Croi An Or first and Kedleston second. Winning owner John Byrne is a Kerry man so he was thrilled to have a winner at the Kerry track.
Unfortunately in the last race Parkers Mill didn't get the same script as the other two winners and he didn't stay out the trip going 1m 6 for the first time. A drop back in trip will hopefully see him more effective in the future.
