Last night we were in action at Limerick and after hitting the cross bar a few times on Sunday we were really hoping for a winner.
The six furlong 3yr old race was the first on the card and our recent Dundalk winner Penniston Line was lining up against a field of 4. He went on to be 2nd coming out the wrong side of a photo finish with regally bred Precious Dream. We were happy enough and think a step up in trip will be more in his favour.
Romantic Stroll was our next runner in the seven furlong fillies maiden. The good walking daughter of Oratorio finished 4th and she will come on a lot for the experience.
In the 4th race the luck finally changed and we got off the mark when Croi An Or won the 1 mile maiden under the in form Wayne Lordan. The handsome son of Windsor Knot had been 3rd first time out so we were hoping that he would continue to go the right way. He was purchased at the Goffs Orby sale in 2010 by Fozzy Stack and Cormac Mc Cormac for €32,000. He caught Fozzy’s eye in the catalogue as he is a half brother to Drayton- a classy colt that Tommy trained to win two Listed races and finish 2nd to HolyRomanEmperor in the Group 2 Railway Stakes. Unfortunately owner John Byrne couldn’t make it due to a recent operation on his leg but he was represented by his uncle Paddy who was on hand to collect the prize on John’s behalf. Get well soon John!
The luck continued in the next race when Cnocan Diva won the 1m handicap under apprentice Shane “Fifi” Gray. She has strengthened up since last year and ran on well to wear down the long time leader Prince Jock and win by half a length. We were thrilled for her owners Newtown Anner Stud who are great supporters of the sport.
Summing up it was a great night at Limerick. The 12,400 strong crowd of students provided plenty of atmosphere, giggles and awesome sights!
